Sometimes it seems that people who decide to create businesses aimed at solving or mitigating social or environmental problems do so in isolation, as an initiative in which a few decide to do something for the planet and its people. But in reality, there is an entire global network of people who believe in a different way of doing business, and they demonstrate that it is not only viable, but also inspiring for many more.

People and Planet First Week launched this year from November 18-22 and is driven by People and Planet First, a global organization that highlights and empowers companies and organizations that put people and the planet first, over profit. This week will highlight companies from around the world that are changing the way business is done, and will involve entrepreneurs, conscious consumers, and people actively working to make a positive impact on society and the environment.
This movement includes everything from cooperatives to fair trade companies, social enterprises, indigenous businesses, and many others. They are not only transforming lives; they are rebuilding entire communities and ensuring their products, services, and supply chains are not harmful to the planet. People and Planet First is a shared identity that unites this global movement and provides a system of verification, access to resources, and collective advocacy through a network of trusted partners.

EKHOS is the Latin American partner organization that supports organizations that want to be part of this network, and this week it is participating in three key activities. On Tuesday, November 19, a collaborative and open activity was held for organizations that support social and impact enterprises. They worked together to create a regional snapshot of the Latin American Impact Ecosystem. The goal is to generate information that will be used to engage with other ecosystems around the world at the upcoming Global Impact Business and Ecosystem Forum ( https://gibef.com/ ).

Thursday, November 21st, marks International Social Enterprise Day, and there she found herself leading a panel on how people and planet are being put first in Latin America, followed by an open conversation on collective action for sustainable change, led by Jessica Oyarbide, Álvaro Mur, Manager of the Red Impacto Latam, and Eduardo Bazan, Manager of Procuyo SRL. Procuyo is one of the first social enterprises verified by People and Planet First in Argentina. This company, which provides comprehensive solutions in finance, healthcare, and insurance from San Juan, actively works to promote the social and economic inclusion of hundreds of families. To celebrate this important week, a key initiative will be held in our city of Tandil: T+ACTIVA, a waste collection and awareness campaign featuring multiple activities. It will begin at 2:00 PM at Mirador Tandil (Dr. Saavedra Lamas 500), and between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM, there will be workshops with local entrepreneurs who turn waste into resources and who will share sustainable habits that can be started at home. A community waste collection will take place between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM, followed by a simultaneous fun workshop for children and a talk with participants from the Huella Joven initiative. An awards ceremony will take place starting at 5:30 PM and culminating with a live performance by the band of La Plata artist Gabriel Luch. It will be a relaxed, family-friendly event where you can learn about sustainability and positive impact from key stakeholders in the city. It is organized by Mirador Tandil, the Rocas Group, Marcas que Marcan, 3C Tandil, and the participation of the Municipality of Tandil. Among the companies and organizations that have already joined to make this event possible are Ceres Tolvas, Redimec, Banco Credicoop, Chacra y Delpech, Hune, Okapi viajes, Grupo Battistessa, Las Pircas, Agrobolsas, Multimedios El Eco, Zeballos Publicidad, and Nielsen.
